I have to imagine that for the 45th anniversary coming up next year that they will release a special DVD with all of the bloopers and outtakes.

What's the ROI?

It's literally infinite. The only way our species will live on past the life of Earth is to understand space and our place in it. You cannot put a price on the extension of the only sentient life we know of.

No wonder Jesus hasn't made it back yet he had to go to all of those other places and get nailed to the cross. I bet he gets tires of that shite.

Rumor is he has settled on Arrakis for the past few centuries. He finally found a planet that acknowledged him as Lord of the Universe. They're doing the world peace and eternal life on their planet now.

This really shows just how large the universe is and how small we are.

I hate when people throw out "incomprehensible" and "the human brain cannot grasp"... This video did it a few times

None of us have any comprehension on how vast the Universe is...we can't think that big, because we have no reference. The fact that the pictures taken by Hubble took 13 billion light years to reach us is amazing...you are looking at images of how things looked billions of years ago.

I don't think you're using either of these words correctly.

The rewards for a project like this are the minuscule (pun intended) byproducts of the research and techniques developed and used to build, maintain, and operate the telescope. What most people see is just a cool picture; but a scientist sees answers to century-old equations being solved because of mirrors, sensors, mechanisms are all working together perfectly to the nanometer. And this technology can lead to developments in cell phones, cars, medical equipment and much more.

Man, space is fricking neat! They gave us Tang! (which I hate).

More money to welfare, this telescope is useless IMO

Only idiots find it incomprehensible. I just said that.
The information is not incomprehensible.

Ok, semantics though. Even if "incomprehensible" is the wrong word what good does this information do society?

Wait... A video with a bunch of generalities, exaggeration, hyperbole, and made up information is the best you've got?

The Hubble is one of the best investments we've made in recent history.

Can you name one thing it has done to better the people on this planet?

Do you think the War in Iraq, which cost over 3000 times more than the Hubble, was worth it?

Yea boy, should have spent 3000x more, wiped that whole area off the map, Murica wooohooo!

In all seriousness, you're not very wise.

That's 83 million dollars a year, which really isn't too bad

I think NASA is very satisfied with it.

A bunch of nerds got the govt. to subsidize their toy and circle jerk over anonymous grainy images from a time and space that is irrelevant to humanity. I'm sure they are ecstatic. I would be too if the govt. would give me 83 million dollars a year to blow on my hobbies.

I don't know you. You could be intelligent. But your posts make you seem extremely ignorant. Please read my prior post. There is more to Hubble than you think. I don't know where you're getting your assumptions; probably out of thin air. Do some research.

Makes you wonder why we even considered scrapping the Hubble.

re: Most important image taken by Hubble
I read your post. Maybe I am ignorant and you can educate me.

Do you have any proof/evidence, even a claim of one, that usable beneficial technology has been developed thanks to Hubble images?

What boggles my mind:
We humans are killing each other over disputes just 2000 years old. The universe is 7 million times older than our disputes.
