Moments of "divine" intervention?
Posted by tiggerthetooth on 2/26/17 at 3:44 pm61
How many of you would say you've had crazy things happen in life that could only be explained by something otherworldly?

My stomach was hurting and I just let out an epic fart that was only made possible through the love and grace of Jesus Christ.

Should have held it in for hot tub Fridays.

I think she would have liked that.

If you're a devout believer in God, everything is a product of divine intervention. "Everything happens for a reason"

But that's not really what I mean. I understand what you're saying though as I've been around it a lot.
Yep. I get what you mean. A lot of times in my life I run into situations where something happens at a precise time and place that couldn't have happened without a specific sequence of events that preceded it and I just think that it had to have been planned. Sometimes it's comforting to know that there could be some structure in what seems like a constantly random world.
Just a saying
ETA: Let me expand on my first comment in this thread.
When I say that everything is a product of divine intervention it doesn't mean that everything is planned. Free will exists for better and for worse and even in the presence of a creator, everything being controlled/micromanaged seems implausible. However, I do think that if you do believe in God, divine intervention should be believed as something of normalcy.

I've always thought it was selfish to pray for yourself and neglecting to pray for others. Too many people do that, I think.

Then you begin encroaching on our free will. And what's the point in any of this if all our decisions are pre- determined. I still find it fascinating how much Calvinism took off.

To answer the OP directly, I've had a few financial issues that played out to my advantage in ways that I couldn't really explain.

Yep. I do think people have free will. I do also think, however, that there are obvious signs and dabblings of divine intervention in everyone's lives and they shift the courses of our lives in some way, shape, or form. It may not be obvious but I do think it's there.
ETA: not to mention if you believe that God/a creator made the universe as we know it, you'd kind of have to agree that everything is a product of divine intervention.

I am not being a dick--I have always enjoyed discussing free-will vs determinism. It's a hard topic to get a good grasp on. Intellectually, I don't think I believe in divine intervention--besides the free will issue, it would just seem to be too arbitrary to make any sense. Yet, every time my kids go on a trip, I pray for their safe deliverance.

I had to fart during a blowjob, then her mother called her, so I always like to thank god for having my back on that one.
Yep. I understand. I didn't think you were being a dick. I also find it very interesting.
I think, as a Christian, to understand the idea of divine intervention/fate/destiny, I have to remember that God created man in his image. If we follow that idea, we get a better grasp on what God's actions are and what he does. It means he struggles with the same things that we humans do and can't always have everything in control. I know it's very improper to question the power of God, but having doubts in your belief is also a part of strengthening it in my opinion.
