The new measures build upon existing statutes allowing harsher sentences for people who kill or assault police. They impose even tougher penalties, extend them to more offenses, including certain nonviolent ones such as trespassing in Missouri, and broaden the list of victims covered to include off-duty officers, police relatives and some civilians at law enforcement agencies.

They are no more important than anyone else.

The penalty should be the same no matter the victim.

Blue lives matter laws are just as stupid as hate crime laws. All they do is divide people and say that we are not all equal.

So if a fire fighter or EMS worker is assaulted because of the uniform it's okay?

No. It's not ok. It's a crime already. If you assault a bum, postal worker, or a fireman it should be treated the same.

Police deal with the public. At some point a policeman will piss someone off, no matter how "nice" he/she is. If that policeman is outside in the front yard playing with his children and someone, he/she gave a ticket to someone or said something to someone, who took what they said, out of context, they see the off-duty policeman outside with their children and they suddenly decide to attack him/her?

People are not going to be mad at them only when they are in uniform.

I don't know you so this is a sincere question. Are you opposed to hate crime legislation?

Well all hate crimes are bullshite so maybe if enough different ones are piled on society will wise up and get rid of all of them.

If you do anything to anyone that is criminal it does not matter why.

I am very much against hate crime legislation. Hate crime legislation is nothing more than thought legislation.
