Backstory is that a kid from MN with a rebel flag on his truck mows down an AA boy recently. Now I don't know all the details or the full personal genealogy of this Midwestern kid, but why would he be flying a Confederate battle flag on his truck? I thought this was supposed to just be a nice symbol of heritage and honoring our southern roots..

Could it actually be just a symbol of backwoods ideology and 19th century thinking? I say yes and hope the sons of the confederacy here will see the light. Thanks

Could it possibly mean different things to different people?

Ever thought of that

Kind of hard for us to judge without knowing more, you know?

I know. I'm building off of that thread. It was too limited in scope

You should take down your avi pic.

You do know it's based on the Confederate flag you claim to loathe, right?

The American Flag only has one meaning. Freedom that husbands, sons, mothers, and fathers have died protecting. Just because some idiot with a piece of cloth does something stupid you instantly point to racism. smh.

I don't know what that kid thinks, or what you're trying to say, but my thoughts are...

99% of people that do, or want to fly the Confederate battle flag in the year 2015, are racist.

I went to a high school where our mascot was the Rebels, so we argued (correctly, often) that it was a symbol representing our school. Maybe so. (And we liked that it ruffled feathers.)

Who, but a racist, wants to fly a flag that was a battle flag 150 years ago? What exactly are you trying to remind us of?

Yes, I am often a racist. No, I don't fly the stars and bars.

Illegal? Certainly not, but we all know it's meaning these days.

Just because you say anyone flying the stars and bars is racist does not make it true. It does mean different things to different people. In your glorious fight against the intolerant, you are being intolerant as well. In short, if you are offended, have a nice day and quit whining about it...........

Then you really aren't expecting any answers from those you are posing the question to, as much as making an idiotic political statement surrounding events that you admittedly know little about. Gotcha.

For some it is, and nothing more. For some it is a virulent symbol of racism, lynchings, and overt hatred of others.

Certainly. It can mean anything to anyone.

I say yes and hope the sons of the confederacy here will see the light.

See the light? As in, recognize that the Bill of Rights explicitly states that as Americans we have the right of free speech? And consequently those who are offended by free speech, be they white, black, red, yellow, or brown can summarily go frick themselves?

Any symbol in the world may be found offensive to some other group. Old Glory itself is offensive to many in this country. Something you may want to consider before you skin up your knees in the rush to fellate those who seem perpetually offended by something.
