If anyone knows a thing or two about WWII then they would know, in a conventional war, tanks are here to stay. If you have infantry, you have tanks.

Thanks for your service fellas!

Though the video cuts out I highly doubt that tank was destroyed.

Thanks Darth, you and Backwoods Tiger cleared things up for me.

Define "destroying". Did the Abrams burn or was it immobilized? Can you link this video?
Check my 3rd post I where I linked the video which prompted this thread. The Abrams gets hit from behind (as Backwoods noted) and it burns. Video says it was a Kornet missile.

Did you watch the video I linked?

There's a 40 foot flame shooting out the top of the tank. I think it was destroyed.

I watched a M1 get hit with a VBIED once in Saddir City We were probably 200 meters away at detonation. A chunk of metal blew through my HMMWV and the blast blew down a 200 foot section concrete wall. When the smoke cleared the M1 Traversed and kept going with the mission. It was bad arse to see and made me want to be in one for sure.Just for a second though,19k's are some smelly bastards. Also saw one run over a land mine blew the track but everything else was FMC.

You must be thinking of the video that texag7 posted of the Abrams taking a hit.

I did post a link to a compilation video of tank kills in Syria in the OP though.

The one clear look I saw was of a TOW missile launcher. Did not watch the whole fifteen minutes though. Clearly the majority were wire guided anti-tank missiles.

Ok, I see the video you're talking about. The missle hits the Abrams right in the back of the turret. Believe it or not, but from a crew survivability standpoint, this is about the best vulnerable place the Abrams can get hit. In fact, this area has about as much armor as your average compact car. This area is the turret main ammo storage area and it's specifically designed to blow back and away from the crew compartment. So long as the crew had the ammo storage door closed, there almost a 100% change they made it. Furthermore, the tank itself can be recovered, repaired, and put back into service.

Go to youtube and do a search for M1 Abrams blowout panels and you'll see how it works.
