I had an interview today that went very well and I'd be surprised if I don't get an offer within the next few weeks. There are three facilities I would jump between (one in BR north of LSU, one at Geismar, not sure where the third is) and the manager said he recommends new hires live in Gonzales because it's the most central location to all three sites.

I'm a single male, 28 years old with no kids. I'll probably be looking for a place to rent and would prefer rent to be less than $1,000/month. One bedroom is fine; I'll work weird hours so I'm not interested in roommates.

Is there anywhere in Gonzales I should avoid? Any apartment complex recommendations? I was born in BR but have been gone a long time and I know the area has changed a lot.

TIA.

Before some says El Cid.....

I'd choose centrally yet close to interstate. Sounds like you'll be headed in different directions so Id say proximity to interstate is most important. Not a student place because working weird hours and partying students may not mix.

Did you check craigslist... Where are you moving from?

I would look at apartments around dutchtown area

nicer(newer apartments) and more selection than gonzales, and only one exit over

I haven't had a chance to check Craigslist yet but I will as I get these recommendations. When/if I do get an offer, I should be able to gauge which facility I'd be at more and can narrow down my choices.

I'd be moving from Kansas and they'd want me to start pretty soon, so I'm not going to have a ton of time to apartment shop.

Gonzales is not the most central location to the places you named, assuming you are splitting equal time between them. That is a hell of a lot of driving.

If you are doing a lot of driving and a single man, you may as well live in Baton Rouge. Anything with quick access to interstate or Nicholson Dr. can get you between those places quick.

Edit: I assume I know which company you are talking about, and the person I knows that works there splits time between the locations and now spends most of the time in Geismar. They are not even considering moving to The AP. But if you are a homebody, then closer is probably best.

Not sure on price but there are apartments directly across I-10 from tanger, called town lakes or something like that.

You can also see a set of apartments just before you get to the prairieville exit coming from Gonzales.

Those are the most convenient ones I'm aware of, there is another fairly new complex on airline in prairieville just north of hwy 621.

Lots of trash in Gonzales. I'd choose something off HWY 73.
Do yourself a favor and visit the grocery stores in the potential areas. You'll get a good feel of the community

Do yourself a favor and just live in BR close to the interstate. As a 28 year old single guy, you don't want to live in Gonzales. I lived on the golf course in Pelican Point and only last two years.

As someone from there, don't live in Gonzales.
It isn't really that easy to get to geismar from gonzales except on 30 past cabella's which is a clusterf$&k.

You would be much happier living near LSU. i would recommend a place off river road like Lake Beau Pre or whatever that new place is called. Some other good spots would be the lakeview or morning glory neighborhoods around the lsu lakes. The key is to be able to get to highway 30 but to be able to approach geismar from the north where there is much less traffic.

Gonzales is ok. Prairieville and dutchtown are usually more favorable. Dutchtown does not have a post office so it shares the same zip code as geismar. Nice area, good location close to the back way to get to LSU and close to the interstate. I'll see if I can find the name of the apartments on hwy 74 by the interstate overpass. Might be worth a look.

I just found out I will be getting an offer letter and that the third location is in New Orleans. I would bounce between locations and if I do spend more time at one location, I won't know which location that would be just yet.

So maybe Gonzales would be a bit better just because of splitting the difference between Baton Rouge and New Orleans?

I would live in BR, closer to the BR location. Being single, you will have more to do in BR rather than having to drive there to go out.

Driving south is alwags preferred over having to go into BR to visit the one site.

My opinion though.

ETA: just read your last update. Yeah, no good location for that far of a drive. I would live closest to whatever site you will spend the most time at.
