Serial number. Every piece of the plane has a S/N that ties it to a particular aircraft.

What would stop a hijacker from landing the plane, replacing that one part, and then leaving that part in the ocean to be found be searchers later as "proof" that the plane crashed?

Looking at the current maps for the Indian Ocean, it looks like it kinda pulls shite off the west coast of Australia north and swirls it straight toward Madagascar. So where they were looking could of been right.

Who knows how long they were planning this. They likely had it ready the whole time, or got it from the wreckage of the plane shot down over the Ukraine.

I'm aware of those currents, seems like they could have accounted for that. Who knows. Hope this is it so we can find the black box and figure out the final moments.

Even if this piece is a part of MH370, there is still no telling where the wreckage site is. Could be a looooong time before that black box is found.
