I see the punta Cana thread. But have a different but related question:
We want to go to Mexico, I guess Cozumel or cancun or other good place, the week of June 11.
We normally go without our 8 year old to all inclusive resorts, like sandals. Always go to places in Caribbean.
Never been to Mexico but it's time. And want to take 8 yr old daughter too. And prefer all inclusive resorts.
Anyone tried this with any success?
Also, what about this new service with direct flights to like cancun from Nola? Seems pretty tight. Anyone do that? It's some sort of vacation package thing?
Thanks in advance any feedback or opinions.

I have no answers for you as I will be going to my first AI in July. However, isn't it kind of late to be booking a vacation for less than a month away? How much extra can you expect to pay with booking in May versus say January?

Yeah it's sort of poorly scheduled but I figured I'd give it a shot. I think I may be surprised at some good prices.

You can go direct now Nola to cancun. Playa del carmen is 10x better than cancun though. Cancun is basically a trashier version of Miami these days.

I second Playa as well.
And Cozumel is cool for a day trip (take the ferry from Playa)...,,but I wouldn't want to stay there my entire vacation.

my dad took my sister and I to Cancun when we were 13 and 11 respectively. we had a great time.
Did ruins, snorkeling, beach, pool, and fun restaurants.
this was back in like 1994, so things may be different now.

Last time I went to Mexico we rented a condo in Puerto Aventuras. It is much more laid back than Cancun or even Playa del Carmen. The next time I will likely stay in Akumal. Both are great places with an 8 year old.
While you are down there do yourself a favor and look into Local Quickies day trips. They run a first class operation.

There is a great resort in Playa del Carmen. Just an hour south of Cancun.
Paradisius Play Del Carmen
Has swim up balconies, and a family area, but also a special family concierge that allows your kids to also get pampered. Like custom menus, pb and j brought to them whenever, a kids area, kids library and activities to give the parents qt time.
We almost booked it through Costco. For five days including airfare for a family of four it was $3200 (suite w/ concierge). Food tax everything included.
If you are a costco member check there.
I had researched the area to find the best places for a 6 and 8 year old.
(we took a cruise instead because the girls really really wanted to take a boat)
Hopefully will do Paradisius in the next two years.

Got home at 2 this morning from Melia Caribe Tropical in Punta Cana. It was a blast. We stayed for a week. People are really nice, place is beautiful and huge and if you don't want to leave the resort you don't have they have everything. 10 different restaurants, 3 giant pools, shows every night, casino, beautiful beach and everything else awesome.

Playa
And there's not much difference when you book it
Sometimes there are great last minute deals if your schedule is flexible.

Isla Mujeres. Just a short ferry ride from Cancun. A paradise oasis.

I'd like to jump in some Cenotes and see Chichen Itza. Probably go to Tulum.

Went to Cancun for Senior Trip. Nothing I experienced would ever make me want to take my 8 year old daughter.
