Drivers traveling Staring Lane will have to ease up on the accelerator following the Baton Rouge Metro Council’s decision Wednesday to reduce the speed limit from 40 mph to 35 mph along the newly revamped thoroughfare.

quote:

residents also having trouble sleeping from the noise of the speeding traffic and the residents were getting harassed by drivers as they checked their mailboxes or pulled their trash cans from the roadside..."people curse us out and they’ll throw trash at you,”

?que?

quote:

Bryan Harmon, interim director of the city-parish Department of Public Works, said the street was redesigned for at least a 45 mph speed limit...
Officials previously said that the limit was set at 40 mph as a compromise to earlier criticism from residents.

So road was already being operated below design conditions.

quote:

Councilman John Delgado, who proposed the ordinance to reduce the speed limit, stressed to the council that they should be focused on the concerns of the residents instead of the city engineers.

Delgado seems like an all-around genius. Operate roadway outside of parameters from the start? Check. Reduce speed even further outside of design conditions while saying f*ck the engineers? Check.

stupid. The metro council is a bunch of commies. I can easily drive 90 mph down that stretch

What's the point of "expanding" to alleviate traffic and then keep the speed the same? Derp.

Legit gripe (in some cases).

They should have bought out one side of the road completely, leveled the homes there, and kept the road farther from the remaining houses. They could have also used asphalt instead of concrete to reduce tire noise.

Then again all of that would have pissed people off too.

Man frick that. Perkins is 45mph and Highland Rd between 10 and airline is 55(granted no houses on that stretch).
That road in no way should be 35mph. metro council. I'm FB messaging Delgado right now.

Delgado is the biggest drama queen in the world,
from the initial story the other day

"“They are purposefully putting people’s lives at risk for no gain,” Delgado said of the Department of Public Works, which sets the speed limits for the city"

thats 5 mph difference will change things?

They should have bought out the houses that front on the street if they wanted a higher speed road.

They didn't want to spend the money to do it correctly and they didn't plan ahead....not to mention that it took them forever to screw it up this badly.

I thought we were just talking about Staring Lane? Not the whole city.

Yea. I see what CW was talking about. That stretch is frickin horseshite but... at least it was set that low b/c of future residential housing there. Talk about a perfect stretch to hit 100mph on .

frick this noise.

You expand the road just to keep the limit the same?

They should have left Staring road a POS and fixed another one then.

The road was widened to help traffic flow. Dropping the speed limit on it so low is contrary to why the road was expanded in the first place.

I'm glad they are lowering it.

People are going 55+ between Highland and Perkins. If they don't want to send police out there to radar, then lowering it is the next option.

They could make a fortune every morning on that stretch if they decided to run radar.
