Considering two lanes in the same direction merging into one.

Are you the driver that sits in the lane that everyone merges into?
Or, are you the driver that drives up to the merging point?

Purpose of the thread is to bitch at those who are already in the continuing lane not to create their own merge point by blocking both lanes with your vehicle. It's ok for cars to pass you and merge at the PROPER point. This goes out to the stupid bitch on Greenwell Springs Rd this afternoon.

Well that will certainly narrow things down.

People who live out past the point where a 4 lane road turns into a 2 lane road are trashy.

I just wait until I find an 18 wheeler to cut in front of.

Waiting until the end to merge is a DICK move and slows everyone down. Don't fool yourself into thinking its some sort of life hack. Everyone having the highest average speed is the goal of the whole process.

No it doesn't. Everyone would move through the merge faster if they used both lanes up until the merge.

Exactly. Instead you have 10 dumbdicks trying to create their own merge area raising the probability of an accident.
This particular merge is right after an intersection at greenwell springs and central thruway extension. Blocking the merge lane causes traffic to block the intersection.

You are 100% correct. I like when the truckers block people off from doing it by blocking both lanes.

Early merging over keeps traffic flowing.

ETA: I'm talking about freeways not Greenwell Road since I have no idea where that is.

What pisses me off more is the idiots who think they can ride in the middle to block people from using the merge properly

EtA: for all the idiots in this thread

I'm sure you're being sarcastic, but just a FYI - a lot of companies are putting in dash cams to prevent having to pay Gordon McKernan for dumbasses that do this. A co-worker just got a lawsuit tossed this week thanks to our dashcams and the plaintiff got a nice interview with the DAs office afterwords about his statements to the reporting officers.

Well freeways are much different as you have ample enough time to get over.

Not true. All you have done is created an earlier merge point. When the traffic is at a crawl in the continuing lane it is best to have traffic merge where it is suppose to. Whole purpose of the merge point.

Zipper merging, however, benefits individual drivers as well as the public at large. Research shows that these dangers decrease when motorists use both lanes until reaching the defined merge area and then alternate in “zipper” fashion into the open lane. Watch a brief video of how it works. So I'm supposed to merge late? Yes! As you see the “lane closed ahead” sign and traffic backing up, stay in your current lane up to the point of merge. Then take turns with other drivers to safely and smoothly ease into the remaining lane. Don't worry about being "Minnesota nice." When traffic is heavy and slow, it is much safer for motorists to remain in their current lane until the point where traffic can orderly take turns merging.

you're correct, but it's an unpopular opinion. i've tried educating folks on the zipper merge a few times. here's a post with many informative links and some sarcasm:

I would agree with you IF there weren't so many assholes that try not to let people in that merge at the end...they are probably the early mergers.

Merging with 110 off the MRB is so aggravating that I just cut through the hood.

Oh a perfect world...at the end morons feel like they're getting cheated and don't let people in, which makes...look I don't have to explain how things really work. Of course everyone merging at one point at speed would be great. It would be great if my wife looked like Aly Michalka too.
