Prescribed adderall, lose your guns. Seems legit.

Before long, if you have ever been prescribed medication for a mental disorder, you won't be able to buy or own a firearm.

How do you define "mental disorder"?

As probably some lawmakers would..

Everything from Mild OCD, to homicidal schizophrenia.

Well, pretty sure that doctors don't give a diagnosis of "mild OCD". The problem with banning guns from people that take certain drugs, is that the drugs have multiple uses, and may have nothing to do with some type of "mental disorder", however and whatever that is defined to be.

It would be a cluster. I don't think people realize that there's no easy fix.

Great idea. Like Texas taking away my driver's license

And honestly, it's the ones not on meds who are more of a threat

Get ready for the media to start pushing the safety of the majority trumps individual rights. They are just trying to whip the public into a frenzy. Text book thesis anti thesis.

One way would be just to start with the paranoid schysos and then see if the mass murder shite slows down.

If it doesn't then start including less severe diagnosis.

Eta: idk the plural for diagnosis.

Diagnoses

But so many psych people fly under the radar and don't get treatment

And the problem with this mercer being on five meds is not the issue. It's that he was abusing them

Yep, and do you think people are going to be honest with their doctors if they know it will block them from ever owning a gun in their life? And then they will never get any real treatment that they might need.

And think of the HIPAA nightmare on the government finding out about your diagnosis. All of that is protected. Are they gonna be able to search the records of anyone that owns a gun?

And then they will expand the definition of "medication for a mental disorder" to be so broad someone taking a freaking Tylenol will be out of luck.

I take something to help me sleep that at stronger doses treats depression and other crap. How does that end up interpreted?

I thought being on meds was a prerequisite for passing your background check.

Yeah, if I had it to do all over again, I'd check the no box on the dl app question "are you under a doctor's care or taking any psych meds"

My psychiatrist and counselor told me I shouldn't have told them because it's hipaa protected info and they have no way of knowing

Yeah, I'm just saying that every time these things happen, more so lately, they talk about what mental issues the attacker has or had. I cant help but to think at this rate, more steps may be added in the background check.
