Mentally disabled man dies after trying to steal steaks

Employees see the guy try to walk out with steaks. They tackle him and wait for cops to arrive. Says he has chest pain, goes to hospital and dies a bit later.

Coroner says he died of heart disease which was exasperated by the stress of getting tackled.

Of course the family who allowed the guy to roam the streets, drink and do drugs all day now is blaming it on the employees who tackled him, hoping for a pay day I'm sure.

I saw this one.

There's a reason why most stores instruct their people not to do anything about shoplifters. Just identify them, call the police, and let them go.

But really, I do a lot of Personal Injury stuff. (I know). Seems pretty bull shite to me.

You forgot this:
quote:

But the autopsy report, written by Orleans Parish pathologist Dr. Cynthia Gardner, stated that the heart attack was caused by “blunt force trauma injuries.”
Among the injuries listed by Gardner are fractured ribs, internal bleeding of the small and large intestines, contusions and abrasions.

Maybe they do have a case.

That makes it much more interesting. Obviously completely unneccessary and excessive force.

yeah, IMO he knew right from wrong. Had money for drugs, and his family was paid $500k by Breaux Mart.

Walmart will detain people. I've seen it.

Somebody breaks into your house and you walk in as he is trying to steal a tv. Do you shoot or just let him run away (and cops will never catch him)?

Someone explain this to me. Why are there two reports on this? Am I missreading this?

quote:

The probe was nearly complete when the detectives found themselves waiting on one final piece of evidence: the autopsy and a final cause-of-death determination by St. Bernard Coroner Dr. Bryan Bertucci. When Bertucci's ruling came down, the family was stunned. He attributed Gallego’s death to "natural causes.”

Yeah, didnt know you could get a second opinion autopsy unless the family (or lawyer) pays for it

Sad story for the deceased guy's family but from the video it looked like they didnt use excessive force. They knocked him down and held him there. The 500k given to his family by Breaux Mart is plenty IMO.

Too bad the money the family gets/got won't go to paying off his medical bills. I'd love to know how much that month stay cost us.

A friend of mine and his dad were attacked by a meth head. They held him on the ground till the cops came. The mother fricker died of a heart attack. The POS dad tried to press charges on my friend. He still drives by his camp and threatens revenge on my friend.

Especially when it is food. Did this man really need to be tackled over some steaks? I don't know, I'm not sure what happened when police arrived.

Bertucci is a coroner, but not a medical examiner (pathologist). He makes the final determination on the cause/manner of death, but doesn't actually perform the autopsy himself.

My buddy works at a dollar general and they don't have cameras. He said their boss tells them to just let shoplifters go.

Your scenario could not be any more different. Your house is your private property. A shoplifter in a store should not be chased because why should a teenage cashier chase down a thief who could be dangerous. The employee does not need to put himself in Danger over a couple grocery store steaks that are not his.

If you keep letting people get away with little things it emboldens them to do bigger things.
