Is it so hard to imagine that maybe these television shows just want to get rid of the hostility towards a type of person? Whether you think it's a disorder or not, they didn't choose to have the feelings they do and they shouldn't be seen as freaks because of them. Seeing a transgender person on TV isn't going to turn your child into a heathen, and it's not going to make them want to take a knife to their junk. By cutting them off to what's happening in society you're just going to make it harder for them to adapt and accept people when they enivetably learn about these issues later. Might as well go ahead and tell them they can't listen to rock and roll music or dance at school functions so they won't end up devil worshippers.

You're right that nobody is saying it's "normal". Obviously, this is the extreme exception to how most everyday regular people choose to live.
But we are being forced to "accept" it, and told how brave and courageous this is. And how everybody is awesome and if you want to pretend to be something other than what you actually are that's ok!!!!!! Which as adults..that's fine. We know that there are some seriously weird as shite people in the world who do seriously weird things.
But I can see the point the dude made above. I don't have kids, but if I have an impressionable 5 or 10 year old and he saw something about this on TV, or on a magazine cover at the grocery store, or heard people talking about it, I can see why that'd be irritating to try to explain.
