These stories terrify me. This is why vaccinations are so important. Granted...there is the chance you still get the measles even if vaccinated...it will help stop the spread.

Welp, what the hell am I getting vaccinated for if this shite still happens:

quote:

The first two confirmed cases were made public on Thursday and as of Tuesday, that number had jumped to 11 confirmed cases. Currently, seven detainees and four staffers have been diagnosed. The vaccination statuses of the detainees are unknown, but all four staffers had been vaccinated against the measles, said Pyritz.

I've always felt that it was the granola, heavily liberal moms, but that's just from my experience in clinic.

At the same time, anti-vaccine individuals are scientifically illiterate and should be shunned along with obese people.

That is the purpose of herd immunity. Vaccinations do not take hold in a subset of the population, but if you vaccinate everyone, the chances of these illnesses being transmitted to that subset is decreased significantly.

The vaccine doesn't protect you 100% against it...but better odd than not being vaccinated.

Also....the more people that are protected from it...the less it spreads.

I'm just waiting for this to reach where I work at. Considering I'm currently trying to get pregnant...last thing I need to potentially be exposed to is some child with the measles.

I think I'm just gonna mask up anytime I go into a patient's room now.

Yes that is pretty clear in the article I linked.

Point is...the combination of illegal immigrants here that are not properly immunized and little Brayden not immunized because some MTV has been whore said it's bad....makes for a deadly combination.

Yeah I get that and I was mostly being facetious but spreading to 7 detainees that aren't likely immunized and 4 staffers who were immunized isn't exactly a promising discrepancy.

Not a bad idea. Kind of like TB here...have to mitigate your risk. With my first I gowned, gloved and masked with every pt in ICU. With my second my coworkers shielded me...literally and figuratively.

Well, the discrepancy would be much more palatable if I were able to list out the large number of people those 7 came in contact with that aren't infected.

You are looking at the fact that only 11 people are referenced. How many people do you think interacted with them in passing?
