Sheriff Newell Normand reports, Gasser was involved in an incident on February 20, 2006, around 3:30 PM that began on Holiday Drive in New Orleans and ended in the service station at the intersection of Holmes Blvd. and Berhman Hwy., in Terrytown. During this incident, the victim/reporting person, identified only as a 51-year-old white male from Marrero, called 911 in Jefferson Parish to report that a male subject was driving a red pick-up truck unsafely on Holiday Drive. The victim observed a phone number on the truck to call if the vehicle was being operated unsafely. When the victim called the phone number, an individual, later identified as Ronald Gasser told the victim he was the one driving the red pick up truck. A verbal altercation began between the victim and Gasser began at that time. Once the victim reached the service station, he pulled in to begin refueling his vehicle. It was at that time Gasser, who had followed him into the station, confronted him and began to strike him with a closed fist several times. After doing so, the victim reported Gasser drove out of the service station, at which time he called 911.

Investigators at a later date located Mr. Gasser, at which time he was issued a misdemeanor summons for simple battery. The charge of simple battery was ultimately dismissed. We will continue to research this matter in order to determine the reason for the dismissal. Once we are able to determine same, we will report the outcome of our review.

JPSO Release

Whoa. It doesn't necessarily change whether or not the McKnight shooting was justified, but this guy has been in two road rage incidents, one where he beat up a man and the other where he killed a man.

ETA: Nola.com reporting that the gas station where he beat up the man in 2006 is the same intersection where he shot McKnight. That is an insane coincidence.

Yeah not a good look for Gasser. Newell should've said that at the press conference.

and yet knowing this, the cops released him in relation to yesterday's incident. Weren't you the same one ranting about how we shouldn't be jumping to conclusions? Tisk Tisk

If you run into an a-hole once then you've had an unfortunate encounter.

If you keep running into assholes, maybe it's because you're really the a-hole.

It is pretty significant news.

If the admins want to give it the anchor, be my guest.

I feel it does as the other thread is incredibly long and this is new information relevant to the debate to continue and shape our discussions and not get lost in the already monumentally long thread with a lot of bias on the information we had at the time.

This guy still didn't pull his car up next to McKnight in a spot on the road that isn't a travel lane.

No doubt. McKnight could still have been in the wrong 100%, but this is certainly a worth development.

There's more to the story than is being reported. It says something that all three shell casings were found inside the man's vehicle. To me, it means the man was never out of his vehicle and JM came to his vehicle.

first time he got just a summons for battery. A ticket for battery, no bail, then it was dropped.

Second time he shot someone and wasn't even charged.

He knows someone. Me or you would be in Gretna still until the DA figured out what to do.

Yeah the casings being in the vehicle are good things for the self defense angle.

yes it is. They said they found no gun on Joe McKnight but the guy who shot him didn't know he didn't have a gun
