re: Masters in Military History

Yeah unfortunately its going to be coming all out of pocket, no goverment or federal money incentives for me to use. I have begun discussing enrollment with Norwich as well as a follow up with Austin Peay.

Going to have to finally buckle down an take the GRE. Luckily my fiancee is finishing her Bachelors and has agreed to take it with me since she wants her Masters in Education.

Anyone have anything helpful about the GRE?

If it is a subject you truly love, then do it. If you are passionate about even the dumbest thing (not that this is dumb), you can make use of it.

As someone who has spent an exorbitant amount of money on graduate school I would implore you to rethink your decision.

You are going to spend/borrow the money to get a worthless masters entirely online. You would be better off going outside starting a bonfire and burning the thousands of dollars.

I'm thinking of going that route, anyone have any insightful info?

Im in an online Masters Program through the Univ of Alabama. If you arent disciplined in doing work on your own time I wouldnt recommend it.

Read John Keegan. Use online resources. Join military history forums.

Your interest in knowledge and education is admirable. But there is no point in spending that kind of money for a piece of paper that will bring you little if any financial return, especially in this day and age when you can study the subject through so many other avenues.

I don't think it would be entirely worthless, I could go into teaching say at the collegiate level, maybe some adjunct work, Ive seen those with Masters teach a class or two for an extra 20 grand a year.

None of this is correct.

It's your life and if you want to waste thousands of dollars for something that is entirely worthless go ahead.

Norwich is about 30k for the whole program, that includes all books and materials and I believe a 1 week trip to Vermont all inclusive to present your thesis. Its the one I am leaning towards.

Really so the professors I had in college who only had Masters degrees teaching classes, and on further examination of the very public school budget made at the time 16k for their work.

It must have been a dream.

big difference between pursuing knowledge for fun, and paying for a degree

Your friends are lying to you....Try 50 grand for a full time professor and graduate students teaching for tuition reimbursement and stipends.

Go to Barnes and Noble...buy every Military History book they have. Save Your Money...

Which period of history are you interested in? I could see a Masters in Classical History with a specialization in Roman Empire?
European History with a specialization or focus on Napoleonic wars...and Colonization.

I think your focus is too broad...

You had to be dreaming.

Because no one with an online masters degree in military history is making dick teaching anyone.

if the goal is purely knowledge, go do this.

otherwise, research your career fields before you dive into a large commitment.

God forbid someone just simply wants to acquire more knowledge. Ignore the haters. I would do the exact same thing as you if money weren't a major issue.
