Mark Zuckerberg, founder of Facebook, recently shared a picture of himself celebrating a milestone: Instagram now has five hundred million active users each month. There was Zuckerberg in his office holding an Instagram-like frame in front of himself. The picture would have been unremarkable and quickly forgotten but for this: Astute observers noticed that his laptop was on the desk behind him and that he had placed tape over the camera and the microphone. Those are small but significant details.

I taped a really small picture of my butt cheeks to the camera. Take that!

While he has larger security risks than an average user

Yes. You should cover them

I put a sticker on my laptop cameras.

Never thought about the microphone though.

How do I know which way to lay my phone down? Not sure if they are viewing my front or rear camera.

Yes. It is quite easy for some to hack into your camera.

Meh. If people want to watch and listen to me when I'm at my most disgusting, that's on them.

yes. and if you have an external webcam for conferencing, either detach it or point it to the wall.

There's a movement within security groups that consult individuals who deal with sensitive information to actually disable the built in microphone on cellphones as well. This is something Edward Snowden made famous in his Vice Interview. Anytime he makes a phone call, he attaches earbuds to his phone.

Pied Piper could only dream of that kind of adoption.

As for the OP, I think someone like Zuckerberg is a little bigger target that measly old slackster, so I'm not worried.

You're telling me a tech genius can't figure out a better way to secure his device than by using duck tape?

You'll be completely suprised about what the CEO Facebook does! You might want to do it too.

I wasn't aware many people actually did this. All they'd ever see is my disgusting shirtless body perusing tigerdroppings.

This is stupid. Malware that can activate your camera at will can do all sorts of other nefarious things. If you can’t trust your camera, you can’t trust your keyboard either. Follow best practices to avoid malware in the first place — don’t install Flash Player, and don’t install software from sketchy sources — and you’ll almost certainly be fine.

Also, tape does not stop sound waves.

You should cover the camera and mic on your phone too. It's less secure
