New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu warned folks that the city wouldn't let them use caution tape or rope or any other physical barriers to try and reserve spots to watch Mardi Gras, and today, city crews made good on that.

It only took how many years in office for Mitch to do something that I agree with?

lol to people who have to rope their area off. Should look into buying a house on the parade route. Can't beat it.

St Charles is a tougher situation to deal with. But I'd be fine if they threw all that stuff away too.

Mitch has apparently never been to Mardi Gras.

On the uptown route, a lot of those ladders that are out there all week belong to people staying in the hotels along St Charles. Little bit different when someone is putting out their ladders on the route and they're staying in a hotel right across the street and using the route for parades every night of the week...and spending money in the city all week....compared to some people roping off parts of the neutral ground 4-5 days before the only parade that passes on that route, and they're not staying in hotels along that parade route spending money.

Lets see if this is as effective as his 0 tolerance gun laws.

Assholes trying to claim spots on the parade routes. When I went to Krewe du Vieux a couple weeks ago with a group of friends I got told off by this dumb tourist bitch about how we were taking her spot that her and her friends had been waiting for "2 hours" for the parade. Like you are going to be able to claim a spot and have no one stand by or in front of you on crowded Royal Street. I really tried to politely explain the obvious realities of the situation, but she wanted none of it. I was rude for standing on a public street. Old hag.

While I still think this is ridiculous - it's not as bad as people roping off space days in advance. And this only applies to areas near hotels - which is a small percentage of St Charles and none of Napoleon.

LOL. A couple of years ago this older lady physically shoved two of my friends eleven year old daughters because they were in her "spot". I went up front and stood in her space and she actually called the NOPD on me. The Sergeant let her get as far as "he is in my spot" before he held his hand up and said "lady, this street belongs to the City of New Orleans and not you - you don't have a spot". He then asked what brought this up and I mentioned that the bitch shoved two kids and that is when he got real interested in her. She ended up leaving.
