But you and some others are using it with the knowledge that the connotation is something akin to shooting at a person ("shoot first, ask questions later"), when that's not the case. It's also ridiculous to assume that someone would immediately just destroy a car parked on his property, since that never happens in today's world, but more importantly, because a car parked on your property is an inconvenience more than it is a threat to your privacy. Your "hick" reference is not only pretentious and short-sighted, it's meant to evoke a caricatured concept that doesn't apply.

What if someone halfway around the world flies a drone right outside your teenage daughter's window and streams a live feed on the internet? Would it be a hick move to destroy it? What if a drone enters into your homestead without you realizing it? Will law enforcement have the technological wherewithal to regulate this effectively? Regarding your analogy, does a car or anything else in the world have this ability with zero physical and minimal if any legal repercussions for the perpetrator?

I understand that I am using extremes here, but you have to use them to be able to adapt to worst case scenarios. It seems people don't have the foresight, caution, or imagination to understand what the implications are. I'm not saying this technology is going to create some type of dystopia, but dismissing people's reservations about it is stupid.

i dont have any problem with people blowing the thing out of the sky. I'd be more concerned about discharging a firearm in a suburban/urban area and hurting innocent bystanders with bullets falling from the sky.


but i've got an old bucket of baseballs in my shed in case i see any drones overhead. probably throw my arm out trying to hit the damn thing.

My concern is privacy and security.

They can cross over fences for homeowners or prisons. They can hover over crowds. They can fly low enough to injure people or damage property. If they can deliver packages they can deliver pipe bombs or invade your privacy with a high performance camera.

They will become common enough where they would be difficult to track and operator accountability would be next to impossible to realize. Laws are needed to protect the privacy and rights of the individual and property owners.

How would airspace be measured? People have structures and objects of different heights on their properties, and a private airspace cutoff would be invisible and difficult to uphold.
