This is legal in Oregon, I think. Go there.

Have you ever been around someone with advanced terminal cancer?

Yep, just what I was thinking. People have no clue unless they experience it.

My mom's brother asked her many times to "pull the plug". Terminal cancer throughout his body. My father is a pharmacist and had the means to do it. She decided against it in the end but definitely thought about it. I don't think we should judge anyone until we are in that position and see a loved one suffering.

Pulling the plug =/= pulling the trigger

The way to "keep her comfortable" is to basically kill her with morphine and versed.

re: Man kills wife to end her suffering from cancer
I cannot imagine the hell this man is going through. Seeing his wife of 20 years in agony, knowing she is going to die, knowing he is going to lose her. And it getting to the point where she is asking him to kill her. He knew that on top of losing his wife of 20 years he would also probably spend years or perhaps even the rest of his life in prison. But he did it to stop her from suffering any more. The guy basically sacrificed his life in one final act of love that he knew would haunt him forever.

Should he go to jail? Hate to say it but as fricked up as it is, yes. We have laws and they have to be upheld. But instead of casting stones at this man, instead get down on your knees and thank the Lord above you've not had to walk a mile in his shoes and pray you never do.

I remember there being an old country song about something very similar to this but for the life of me I cannot think of its title or artist.

So this guy kills his wife and we're all supposed to feel SO bad for him, boo hoo!! But O.J. does it and all of a sudden he's the bad guy? Talk about a double standard.

If you can't understand the difference then you shouldn't be allowed internet access.

shite like this should be allowed IMO...Dr. Kevorkian got hosed on his ordeal b/c he was a medical outcast and nobody had the balls to do what he did.

If a person is suffering from terminal illness and they have to live all drugged up on morphine all day just to get through the day, who are we to tell them they can't die?

I mean you can't do it yourself, or even have somebody give you your pills or like in this case do it for you, but a pregnant woman can have an abortion. How fricked up is that?

Assisted Suicide should be completely legal. It's just nuts to me that some people have a problem with it when some people are greatly suffering and have a certainty of death anyway.

Again, this word is overused on this site. A joke is not a troll, this was obviously a joke. Say it wasn't funny or say it's inappropriate, but don't just say "troll". It's lazy and it devalues the term.

And the guy that responded to it seriously is an idiot.

Did she have the ability to move her arms? If so, then she should have never put her husband in that position. If you want to die, then kill yourself, but don't ask someone else to do the dirty work, live with the decision and deal with the legal fallout.

Fair criticism, but it was obviously MEANT to be funny. Comparing a mercy killing to an enraged ex is over the top and obviously not to be taken seriously. A troll has to be somewhat believable to incite an emotional response. Just a pet peeve of mine that the word gets thrown around so much.

I think you have to think about religion in this. Many times they believe suicide is unforgivable and damns you to hell.

If you're that religious to believe that, then I would think that you'd think about the fact that God would know your intent and asking someone to kill you is no different that pulling the trigger yourself. IMHO
