The OP's lack of ambition is a little disturbing. He hasn't asked for a comparison of the math department with one of LSU's peer institutions.

Like Caltech.

Some of the math teachers at UNO are brilliant, but not the best teachers. Some are good teachers though.

I have about 40 people in my DE 2 class right now. Some of the lower level classes can get packed, but once engineers stop having to take them, the class size drops.

New Orleans is definitely accepting of outsiders

Thank you. This is the kind of information I was looking for.

Brian,
Please reconsider your major....If you can pass math, become an engineer. your future family will thank you for it.

LSU Math has large classes for the freshman year courses. If you are good enough, you can test out of those skipping right into "normal sized" courses.

refer to the link below to see how your ACT-Math score can help you skip to the higher level courses

You can do both, it's like a year extra, get two separate degrees.

For someone interested in math as a language I'd think engineering would've very boring. Physics would be a better fit, if you actually want to 'speak' math.

No clue which is better, I know UNO has excellent programs, but I would want to kill myself if UNO was my college experience

Serious question - What do you plan on doing with a Mathematics degree? I'm assuming you're getting a bachelors degree.

If you're planning on teaching at the high school, middle school or elementary level then it doesn't matter. Hell you could go to LATech, Southern, Xavier, ULL or Grambling and you'll still get about the same education.
