It is the state's greatest collection of shysters, grab-assers and morons you have ever seen, and they are all having the time of their lives talking amongst themselves and not getting one single fricking thing done.
and yet, despite this rich history of do-nothing, leeching morons, none of the universities has ever actually CLOSED. This is as cyclical as the swings in the economy. All these Chicken Littles crying about cuts to LSU need to realize THIS shite HAPPENS REGUALRLY!! It wont be as bad as the gov, legislature, or LSU want you to think it will be. Dont be pawns or puppets for any of them. LSU will survive, the Tigers will play ball, you'll all get drunk, maybe even graduate. Then you will leave for a better career elsewhere and, as time goes on, you will realize this is one big game that has been played out and will continue to play out for eternity.
On a side note, I agree with your whole post.

About time something is finally happening.
When a student selects their university, having programs in many different areas is important in his or her decision making process. Cuts of entire degree programs only hurts the goals of attracting the best and brightest.
Yes, the majority of people who will donate money back to the university are probably engineering majors or business majors. However, the good publicity from having prominent figures in any field make a name for themselves is important.
People who pick an engineering major may not be huge fans of the literature course they are forced to take. That being said, part of college is learning a variety of skills and learning how to communicate with a wide variety of people. There is inherent value in the humanities courses. They truly have the ability to change ones perspective and learn life skills.
As for the fact that "the economy is bad and we need to all sacrifice."For one, the economy is actually on the rise ( LINK). Why is something else suddenly more important than higher education, when in theory the tax base should be similar if not slightly higher than it was last year?
Second, LSU is a state university. It is important that the state actually contributes if this is the case. Private universities have fewer regulations, and thus can make adjustments to remain profitable. If Louisiana wants the benefit of regulating the higher education system, an amount of money similar to what is provided in other states should be provided. Higher education is an investment in a state's future. The number of LSU graduates who stay in Louisiana is extremely high. Maintaining a top quality university is essential in ensuring we continue to keep talent in state and can attract leading companies in business and engineering to the state.
Cuts to the school don't only hurt current students, they hurt everybody. A reduced LSU changes the value of the diploma you hold

Getting their attention is like trying to gain the focus of a 5 year old with ADD. Unless you are waving candy in front of them or taking it away, you don't stand a chance.
I believe the difference this time is that the governor is planning on running for President. Cameras will record thousands of students protesting what is essentially privatization of the state's flagship public university (as it will receive almost no state funding) so that he doesn't have to raise taxes. He wants to be able to say "I didn't raise taxes" during his campaign. This is considered a GOP prerequisite these days given how far right the republicans have gone. The protest will make him look bad to the politically centered and left nationally.
Hopefully he remembers how much LSU's tuition is next time he's interviewed on national TV. Next time they ask him they'll play this protest footage in the background.

So, here we're getting back into the philosophical arguments about the purpose of government.
exactly, and that I'd rather debate face-to-face over a drink as I don't feel like typing that much.

I'm not sure the private sector is making do.
some are, some aren't. My point is that most businesses and individuals make the necessary adjustments and keep on going. We/they don't piss and moan about it. Or they go out of business and thats that. I find the idea that any public institution is "too big to fail" is as preposterous as the same idea we had towards banks and automakers. There are no guarantees.

Won't support a march hosted by a girl coordinating it, with this pic and hashtag on her profile

Spqrtiger is correct. That is what will happen.
If you want some real action bring Mike the Tiger and don't feed him for a few days and let him loose in the capital building. Maybe you can put a go pro an his head and have video of what happens. I would pay to watch that video.
LSU needs a PAC and to take out about 3-4 legislators who oppose

The "march" was actually just "crossing the street". Turnout looked to be about 200-250 (out of a student body of around 30k).
Maybe they should have played a football game in front of the steps to draw more people?

I've read this lsu budget 14-15 and it seems they had 20million in profit . This didn't include endowment or athletic revenues
Can anyone show me the numbers behind where this huge budget cut affecting LSU is coming from?
