LP Smartside vs Hardie fiber cement

Built a garage with all Hardie exterior. siding, soffit, fascia. good stuff. no experience with the other. would use again.

Hardie has a proven record not sure about smartside.

LP is a product from Louisiana Pacific. It sounds like it expands/contracts a bit since you must leave 3/8 inch between the butt ends of corners. Seems like a big gap.
