Since high school sports I have felt really bad sporadic lower back pain. I've seen Chiropractors with not much help. I believe my biggest problem is my lowest disk is a degenerative disk that didn't fully develop??? (remember this mentioned at one point as a kid).

Do you guys have any recommendations on who I should see? I've seen/heard adds for back health centers and other places like that. Anyone have good results? Doctor to see? I'm on the Northshore in LA BTW. 31 yrs old.

Thanks.

Neuromedical center in Baton Rouge.
Dr Scrantz. Best around. I know a lot of people he's fixed with major issues.

Visit an Orthopedist and ask about pain management maybe? If you do make sure to say you have a "high pain tolerance and are allergic to most pain medications except for that one that starts w/ a D"

This. The worst thing I did for my back was wait too long to go see a doctor. Once I did he discovered I had a bulging disc, set me up with a PT, and I have been able to manage it ever since. Go see a Doctor.

I would recommend this. Also, try a stretching routine or maybe some type of yoga.

Dr Scrantz is a neurosurgeon and he may or may not be able to help you. If your problem is with your back rather than neurological he will refer you to an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in the back, probably dr Kevin McCarthy.

I've been to both and are both excellent at their respective specialties.

Are you part of an HMO? First thing you will need to do is find out who you can see, then choose the best from there unless you are willing to incur out of network costs. And not just for office visits. if you have an out of network physician they may use a hospital which is out of network as well and things can get real costly if you end up having any sort of procedures, therapy, etc.

I would first try stretching and regular excersize or regular yoga. Dr's and PT's are a waste. Are you overweight? Try losing a few pounds as well. I'm not judging. Just trying to help. I would start there first. Give it a few months. Ice lower back for about fifteen minutes each night, too.

Go see Dr. Eiserlou in Baton Rouge at the Baton Rouge Orthopedic Clinic. He's not in New Orleans or Mandeville, but he is a Catholic League grad.

BROC is where LSU has the Team Orthopedists work out of (I know Dr. Bankston works there and he refers specific ortho injuries to their specialists there when necessary).

All of the doctors at the Baton Rouge Orthopedic Clinic are Fellowship Trained. They can see you for everything, but the doctors who are in the Spine Center went to additional training to specialize specifically on back problems.

Same with feet and ankles. Same with Shoulders. Same with knees, etc.

Eiserlou is the beast of the Spine Center though. Seriously. Go see him ASAP.

Yeah medical advice from complete strangers on a message board is much better.

Ice will help relieve pain but heat will better help the healing process.
