Speaking of filing taxes, is there any real reason why you have to provide your gross income from 2015 if you efile for 2016?

I think I'll use Jackson Hewitt

Ballers don't get refunds. They cut a check.

Did you file for 2015? You won't get a refund for 2016 if you haven't filed in previous years.

I always try to come out owing the state a little, since you may wait up to 8 weeks for a refund. However I just filed an amended 2015 Louisiana return that I expected would take 6 months to process and I got my refund in like 3 weeks.

It is for security purposes.

I found that out last year when someone stole my ssn and filed taxes with it.

Congrats on over paying on your taxes throughout the year rather then just having in in your paycheck every month. You would already have it.

My tax harvesting losses in the stock market dictate otherwise.

If it is a small amount (<$1000), I would rather get a refund than have to pay.

Spare me the "interest free loan to the government" bullshite on an amount that small. An $800 windfall beats the hell out of an $800 bill. And spread out over the course of the year is not very noticeable.

Louisiana State Tax returns

It's a tax refund, not a tax return.
