Those Schools you just mentioned are in the same state. They typically don't want someone who went to some law school up in the northeast even if it is more prestigious.

This isn't true at all. And don't give me "I know a guy who.." BS. If you're licensed in the state, and you have a good degree, they will hire you.

If you're going to a small market like Lafayette, for instance, they might care about where you're from originally or why you want to live there, because they don't want to invest in you for two-three years before you bail for a better market, but it has little to do with what law school you went to.

I love being an attorney. The ones who don't are the ones who treat it like a job.

Being a member of the bar is a lifestyle. It transcends being a normal person with a normal job. You've got a higher calling, and to be happy, you need to accept that.

Oh lord. The only attorneys that I hate worse that the miserable ones are the ones that act like we're some sort of priesthood.

It isn't a job, friend. Even a profession. You have an obligation to a progressive society, to the further advancement of human order.

How much of that lifestyle involves drinking?

By getting drunks out of DUI's and getting money for people that aren't really hurt? How long have you been practicing?

I don't like hanging out with attorneys my own age because all they want to talk about is their caseload and how they are constantly "saving their boss's arse".

I always enjoy talking to lawyers who want to talk about sports, their childhood, their kids, etc.

Or file frivolous suits and get large corporations to give you nominal settlements. Get enough of those and profit like a mofo.

Sounds like hanging around the law school crowd that wants to do nothing but bitch about law school, test postmortems, and the rumor mill.

I'm the same way. I often hate running into other lawyers in social situations because they often want to talk about what they do.

You submit an alias that gets posted in case you fail.

The alias is actually so the graders don't know whose exam they are grading.

You know what would be a solid gig? I wouldn't mind writing amicus briefs for a living.

Yep, you guys are right. I'm pretty far removed from the process so I forgot about that.

Well, you're both right. Otherwise I don't see the point in using the alias for the non-pass lists.

Nah. Get on that public law school tenure track. You can basically be a shithead malcontent, complain about your boss, sign petitions to get him fired, blast him on social media, and STILL keep your job.

And you get six figures a year to teach 20 hours a week.

You practice in NY, right? What was the NY Bar like? I would imagine it has a lot of bankruptcy and landlord/tenant questions. Is that a correct assumption?

I am in NY. I'm admitted in NY and NJ.

The emphasis was on the multistate. From what I recall, my NY essays were CivPro, T&E, Property and Crim, but I don't recall landlord/tenant specifically.

I also don't recall the exam being "hard" per se. Just more of an ordeal/hazing process. I was definitely sweating out that time period of waiting for the results, though.

The fictitious name is chosen well before the test.
