Louisiana is the world's prison capital

How does something like this happen in this country? Pretty scary. This is a nation-wide problem with no simple solution.

Because the US worships at the altar of unbridled capitalism and allows for-profit prison companies to run the prison. The economic incentive is put into place and therefore the incentive is to arrest as many people as possible so that new customers in the form of federal and state governments line up to give them the contracts. Unbridled capitalism has poisoned the soul of this once-great country.
