Louisiana guy on "The Voice" - James Dupre (I first heard him on TD.com)

If anyone is interested in following some local (lafayette) talent, James Dupre made it past the audition round
I believe this is the thread I first heard of him:
from 2010
he has a great voice with no production in his videos
the voice audition wasn't his best, but all four turned around so he will be in the competition
some of his youtubes:
let her cry

He's dating a girl I grew up with. They're in heaven right now with all of the support. Dude killed it though.

I been listening to him on youtube for years now. Thank you for bringing this to my attention. Will definitely be tuning in and cheering for our boy!

damn, I am glad to see him getting some good publicity...I remember the thread here about him a few years ago and was really impressed by his singing....

Didn't he say on the show that he is living in Nashville now?

Looks like I didn't reply to you in 2010.
Well....he used to.

Good voice, but seems like a dull personality.

Yeah, and his kids live in Louisiana. Let's all root for him!!!!!!!

The show did not do him any favors. They portrayed him as a divorced absent father with his 4 kids in LA and him in Nashville rarely seeing them.

That's exactly how he came across. I saw that episode and I was thinking "this dude thinks chasing his dream of fame is more important than being near his kids. That's not your typical 'feel-good' backstory".
I can see that having a negative impact on him. They should leave all the backstory crap out of it, and have it based solely on their talent level.
(I know, I know....that would destroy their ratings. The world today has to 'care' about the strangers on their TVs while they sit on their couch and shove Cheetos into their faces, ridiculing the other strangers for being talentless.)

picking Adam was the best thing he could have done. He has lived in Nashville and the pure country is not working for him. His sound is most similar to Hootie, and he needs someone that can help develop that complexity and not pigeon hole him into just country.

The "Hootie" sound is complex

Yeah. Was watching it and thinking to myself that even if I was divorced, I could never live 45 minutes or so from my kids.
