Common Core is a set up standards, nothing to do with the learning. I am not opposed to common core really

Sounds like everywhere. Public education now is geared to the lowest common denominator. If you have kids a that already are brilliant, you can navigate through it, but marginal kids won't develop, because it's just basic daycare now. Hopefully there are more choices soon, but I feel sorry for anyone who has kids in Public school these days...

and parents

"fixing" schools is a joke as long as the government incentivizes morons to have kids and skip out on the raising them part of the equation. but like most things in this day and age, we are not allowed to talk about the root cause(destruction of the nuclear family) and are left instead to come up with impossible solutions re. schools and criminal justice system.

It all needs an overhaul.
Like our state government.

Local schools have lost touch with reasonable testing and standards. We pay too low to keep anyone, our standards are too low to truly change a generation, and our schools are too out of date to keep up.
The money that is already allocated to public school goes to other pockets.
Also, education is not taken seriously by parents anymore.

Probably the fact that it's compulsory. Set that dead wood afloat. Stop mainstreaming retarded kids into the classroom.

Profit.

People put too much stock in their kids school. Does it hurt to have your kid in the best schools? Absolutely not.

But if you do your job as a parent, your kid will succeed even in LA public schools.

Many Louisiana parents are trashy, ill-mannered, and by demonstration, teach their kids counter-productive behavior patterns. The worst thing about Louisiana schools is that your kids will have to go to school with their kids.

SPED...by eating up funding, limiting the teachers ability to effectively teach the non-SPED students, and creating untouchable assholes that are immediate drains on society.

As an educator I feel there is very little I can do to promote those exceptional students..This is because the school board and system wants me to follow a certain Curriculum and if I deviate from it I get reprimanded.

This is a big factor. One teacher and two aides for 4 students. I knew a situation in which there were 2 teachers and 3 aides for 7 students (2 classrooms).

Our population is probably the biggest problem. I don't think my kids private school teachers are any better than the ones teaching in public. They just doing have to put up with crappy students cause those are asked to leave

Unless of course their parent donate enough to the church
