if it was broken down in to social classes I bet you and I would have about the same chance of contracting something

So mountains don't >>>>>> swamps?

I never stated my personal opinion as the end all be all

Not enough swamp backing it up. Plus, you've got to deal with Carolina people

Well I attend the same medical school you graduated from, will probably go out of state for residency and will undoubtedly return afterwards. The people in LA need doctors regardless of the politics and bureaucracy involved.

That's fair, I should have included "IMO" when I said that.

I thought being out of state would make me think of Louisiana less, but it has just made me miss it more honestly.

Eh, WA isn't that white. It doesn't even compare to the whiteness in Oregon.

The system is fine for many.

This approach may very well be the fundamental and potentially fatal flaw of America and maybe even human civilization itself. Too many people think they are the only one that matters and the suffering of others is irrelevant. No society can function for very long with that as the prevailing mentality.

One of the biggest reasons humans were so successful in evolution was our nearly unique (or at least very uncommon) capacity for altruism and ethical cooperation to advance mutual interests. The "me first" or "me only" approach worked far less well for many other species, and still does. Whenever we revert to it, it works far less well for us, too. We seem to be headed that way and, like you, many are apparently already there.

It's certainly a shitty outlook to have when you're the 50th ranked state in the union.

Especially the fact that he said the poor opportunities doesn't impact him because his son will have plenty of opportunities.

I had every opportunity I could have asked for afforded me growing up in LA, and I'm grateful for that. I still got the hell out of Louisiana while I could as soon as I finished my education.

There's very few companies that can keep college grads in the state, especially when so many other states offer more opportunities, higher paying jobs, less taxes, better education, and better infrastructure. Louisiana is in a bad place and I don't see how to stop the brain drain to make it any better.

Ding!Ding! we have a winner . Grew up in Louisiana but everytime i go back i just shake my head at how bad as a whole the state is

The job opportunities for college graduates in Louisiana are pathetic compared to Texas.

Attitudes like this is part of the reason we will continue to be last.

Louisiana is home, but at what point does everyone come together and say "we deserve better"?

There two obvious problems are the lack of industries available and education, with education needing to be first priority. In Texas, for example, the only reason, for the most part, people send their kids to private school, is because they are wealthy and prefer their kids grow up in a particular church, etc (some people want their kids to go to a Catholic school, etc).

In Louisiana, unless you live in the few areas that have a pretty good public school, you pretty much have to send your kids to a private school. And because of the lack of industry, people are leaving right after they graduate college so the state has trouble keeping its educated people home and isn't able to attract anyone out of state to move in, for the same reason people are leaving.

The political environment remains the same. Everyone helps themselves, but does nothing to help the state so instead of getting pissed because the state is always last on every state list that is not good to be last on, why not let it open up your eyes and realize there are a lot of good things about this state, but ignoring the real problems will make it continue to get worse.
