Looking to replace my 13 year old HVAC system that has been leaking and freon is now super expensive, so thinking of getting a new system.

Have you guys found a good company to deal with? I have quotes from Ram Heating(super expensive), Glaze Air(one man shop)and Accutemp(professional). Are there any

Also none of the guys wants to do a heat calibration, they are just recommending the capacity based on square footage which I read is the worst way to decide capacity. ALso bigger is not better.

I've got no BR reccomendations, but I'm curious if you're considering heat pump systems.

At least you got 13 years

Think of all those that have r22 systems. They got screwed or will be getting screwed.

Its as bad as ethanol gas

Estimate $1200 per ton and 1 ton per 400-500 SF of space

Will vary based upon insulation efficiency and ceiling heights

LINK

Has potential. I've worked with it only a few times.

Edit*
Sorry for the blind link. It is a link to a new-ish drop in replacement for R-22

My 4-ton downstairs unit went out four years ago and I replaced it with a high-efficiency American Standard. Breaux's Heating and Air did the install. They were about $200 higher on the estimate, but they did the job the very next day, no small consideration in the middle of August. There is a noticeable difference in the dehumidifying performance with the R422 refrigerant, probably because it runs colder than the old R22. It also runs less frequently. My electric bill went down at least a hundred bucks a month after the new unit was installed. No problems at all with American Standard. It's a premium brand.

Look up Billy Tugwell at Tugwell Mechanical. He did my systems at my residence and the commercial units at my office. He is very good at what he does and he is 100% HONEST. The honest part being why I use him. If he says it costs X dollars then that is what is needed.

I knew he was the guy when my upstairs system quit right when I moved in (before I replaced it) and I called him out expecting the old system was shot. He walked in my upstairs AC room, laughed, leaned over and reconnected a wire that the movers had snagged and pulled out of a socket. System started running. He looked the thing over and told me I could get another year out of it. Best part, he wouldn't even take payment for the service call. Just told me to ring him when the system finally gave it up.

You get what you pay for. Compare apples and apples and you'll see Ram isn't 'super expensive.' I went with them in 2012 for heating and air and they were best price for quality of material/work.
