I'm a landscape contractor and use Sonny Sod all the time. They are usually cheaper than anyone on the Northshore and do nice work. If you have plenty of sun and good drainage, grade A centipede is what I would recommend.

If you just laid sod down on tilled dirt with no prep work and no pre-emergent on the grass in the last 2 years, you're going to get weeds.

2 months ahead of time I doused the area with Round Up. Killed everything. Re-did application 1 month ahead of time and spot treated up until Sod was put in place. Did not do a pre-emergent.

Sonny Sod

I used Sunny Sod and my grass looks great after 18 months.

My neighbors' builder used pasture grass and theirs looks terrible.

My pain in the arse is the previous owner laid 2 fricking tons of gravel in the front. Apparently she didn't want to deal with a yard at all.

I've removed a good bit to create a little gravel driveway and to suppress weeds in other areas but still have a good bit left.

y'all think for a little extra dough the sod layers will remove the leftover gravel and then do their thing? Or do I have to get a "landscaper?"

I'll be pretty busy this summer so time to do it myself is limited

They'll bring in a bobcat and scrape it up.

May have to add a bit of fill, IDK.

It'll be a quick job though.

(If it's really two tons, you'll need some fill)

Would be nice if a bobcat would fit in the yard but it won't due to fence.

But nice to know they'll attempt something.

I don't know how much it was but it was a good few inches worth. Felt like 2 tons after 20 wheelbarrows worth of shoveling

What's a good grass to lay down if you have little sun, due to large crepe myrtles, and poor drainage.

Serious question...thanks for replies.

They told me it would be $185 picked up for St Aug. Is that what you got? If so I'm about to call them back.
