Man o man am I having a bad week. I sold my share of a company I started last November and have been on the sidelines for a while and started really looking for a job in earnest in April.

I took sometime in May to travel and in June to go to Israel but have been pretty disciplined in looking for a while.

I am a corporate finance M&A guy with an MBA and 15+ years of experience and am getting damn tired of hearing "we decided to make the role more junior" or some variant.

Before I started the partnership I was in I made some damn good deals so I have a proven tracked record on being able to find and close deals so I am not sure what is going on.

I am not sure why I am throwing this on the OT (I must be wanting some abuse) but here it is.

How about some job search stories - good, bad, ugly. Things you did to nail the dream?

Oh and here is a picture of of tits for your time:

I hear you. I've been looking too.

It seems a lot of companies are just sitting on the sidelines.

It's good to be on top, that's all.

It is easier for OT'ers to create jobs than to find them.

Been looking a couple months, got an interview Monday. Been practicing my "frick you, I quit" speech in my head for about six months to a year. Leaving this job will be orgasmic. Good luck bro,

I was a finance major and worked for a major bank in charlotte for 2 years. Started looking and it took 8 months for me to find a new one i somewhat liked. Only had 3 interviews with companies I really liked between then. There are a lot of garbage jobs out there but definitely don't settle. If they really are junior roles you've heard back from you wouldn't want them anyways.

What industry are you in?

I don't wanna get too specific, but essentially we take resources like dreams and happiness and we manufacture them into finished products like depression and constant suicidal thoughts. It's actually a pretty big industry, pays well but the work kinda sucks.

I had an interview about 3 weeks ago. The person interviewing made it sound like the worst job in the world.

I withdrew my candidacy. I regret it in hindsight.

Yep, I was there at the beginning of the year. I was getting one interview after another and numerous offers. The problem was everyone was trying to lowball me. This went on for 6 months before I finally secured the position I was looking for.

It blew my mind. I was making pretty decent money by OT standards before getting laid off. I had 10+ years experience and a really good resume. The offers I was getting were dang near entry level pay. I told more than one company that they requirements didn't match the pay grade and maybe they should consider someone right out of college.

No doubt it was frustrating. The job market is terrible right now and companies are trying to take advantage of that. They want experience and are refusing to pay for it in a lot of cases.

It's not unlike panning for gold. You have to spend many a day feeling stupid while you swish that little pan at the riverbank... then one day it's there. Tough counts, my friend.

I completely feel your pain. I filled out over 100 applications and drained every resource and network that I had, no matter how small or distant.

Good luck. You'll need it.
