Local TV flood coverage awards...."The Floodies'

I think we have enough of a sample size to go ahead and hand out some "Floodies" to some deserving local media members who are working hard to bring us all the latest on the current disaster.


MVP REPORTER: The Floodie goes to....Chris Nakamoto, WBRZ. Dude busts his arse to get to as many different places as he can to get the scoop. His interviews are usually pretty good and he has brought us a wide variety of coverage. No wonder Port Allen mayor Deedy Slaughter still has nightmares about this guy...


MVP DESK ANCHOR: Many good nominees here, but the Floodie goes to....Greg "Street Beat" Meriweather, WAFB. Street Beat has come a long way in his BR career. He used to be a whipping boy on this site, but his game has stepped up big time. He was great during the police shootings and his good work continues during this disaster. He asks good questions, keeps things flowing, and puts up with Donna Britt.


WORST FASHION STATEMENT BY A WEATHER MAN: It has long been known that Pat Shingelton wears a rug, and it looks damn good even at his advanced age, but the Floodie goes to.....Jay Grymes, WAFB. What is up with the black jeans?? Couldn't round up a pair of slacks??


THE "TITS MCGEE" AWARD (presented to the field reporter whose only redeeming quality is her chestal area): Easy one here. The Floodie goes to.....Taylor Evans, WBRZ. She has an awesome rack, but that is really all she brings to the table. Her interviews are awkward and have an "LSU-TV" feel to them. Her questions aren't good, but does anyone pay attention with that rack??

THE "STFU AND GTFO" AWARD. Easy one here also. The Floodie goes to.....Donna Britt, WAFB. She says dumb things, asks dumb questions, and is only here because she has been around too long for them to fire her. Time to let Stree Beat have the reigns and let him shine on his own.


THE JACK OF ALL TRADES AWARD. This one is presented to the reporter who has been asked to go out of his comfort zone and report news. Easy choice here too...the Floodie goes to.....Michael Cauble, WBRZ. Caubs has shown that he can report news just as well as he can report sports. He has reported on site, and he has interviewed the governor. Good work crossing over, Caubs...

THE RIP MEMORIAL ANCHOR AWARD. This award goes to the former anchor that we miss and would love to see covering this event. The Floodie goes to....Paul Gates. I think in his prime, Paul would have been an entertaining watch this past weekend. RIP, Paul.

MOST AWKWARD ANCHOR. The Floodie goes to....Matt Williams, WAFB. For some reason, this guy just weirds me out.

THE "NEPOTISM ACTUALLY PAYS OFF" AWARD. The Floodie goes to.....Michael Shingelton, WBRZ. Pat's kid is actually pretty good at what he does

THE CUTE LITTLE REPORTER YOU WOULD LIKE TO PUT IN YOUR POCKET AND BRING HOME WITH YOU AWARD: Maybe the creepiest award, but the Floodie goes to....Kiran Chawla, WAFB. She is like 4'10, but is cute as a bug, pretty smart, and a decent reporter.


And finally....

THE "WE STAYED OUT OF THE WAY BECAUSE WE PROBABLY WOULD HAVE frickED IT UP ANYWAY" AWARD: The Floodie goes to....WVLA. They have shown more olympics than flood coverage, from what I have seen, and that is a good thing.

BEST NAME FOR AN ANCHOR: The Floodie goes to....Brett Buffington. WTF is a "Brett Buffington"?? I am just glad he survived the BR Police Riots back in June...he was feared missing a few times.
