Contract Grambling, one of Tech or ULM needs to absorb the other.

So dumb to have 3 universities that close to each other in an area as shitty and under-populated as NELA.

Turn the LSU system back into 2 year programs, outside of the main campus.

Shutdown the entire Southern University system.

Shut down Grambling, McNeese, SELA, Nicholls, and Northwestern. Turn the rest of the UL System into 2 year programs, outside of UL-L and La Tech.

Scruffy doesn't even know where to start with the community college system. How about we turn 2-3 of them into vocational schools and shutter the other 7.

That seems like a good place to start.

Keep the bold, consolidate the underlined into the closest school being kept, and Phase the italicized into community colleges.

That is still an insane number of publicly funded universities for a state the size of LA.

THREE separate state university systems

That means there are three university system presidents, HR's, Accountants, and others sucking up tax dollars that could have been more efficiently utilized in ONE system

Meanwhile the entire state of NY has but one university system and 64 campuses serving a state population with nearly 5 times as many residents as Louisiana.

Closing schools is an uphill battle.

Too many eating slop at the trough. Any state Rep or Sen will never vote to close a school in their district.

Biggest waste of taxpayer money in the state is the higher education racket

Legislators look at these as pork projects for their districts, closing/merging them is pretty much impossible.

Gotta get that $$$.

There would be a riot in the legislature. They go crazy whenever the idea of merging Southern NoLa and UNO comes up.

That's 8 four year institutions, 2 law schools, and 2 health science schools. You may be able to consolidate some more with turning McNeese or Nichols into a two year, but realistically and based on the population and not alienating potions of the state I think it's a start and would certainly put Higher Ed in a far more sustainable position than currently constructed.

By 2100, some of those schools will be part of the Gulf so the problem will get solved sooner or later.

As far as I know, this isn't even an option. It is a land grant university, not to mention an HBCU, meaning the opposition to such a move would be insane.

As for the rest...no good reason to shut down McNeese. There is room for it and ULL, just consolidate some of the programs that are at both universities. Over half of the state's population is along the I-10 cooridor. Shutting down damn near every university in the northern half of the state would be cost effective enough.
