How "deep" is the pain? Rhomboid muscle strains/tears/pulls are notoriously slow to heal, and if this is what you've got, it's a hard lick/tough to get over.

You sound like a pretty regular lifter, and if in fact you've done some rhomboid damage (and I'm not shitting you here), you may wind up having to completely re-do your routine for MONTHS.

<------not a doc, but dealt with this. the guy that treated it was a former team doc for the Mavs. He was old, but knew his stuff. Told me that for whatever reason (his theory was that the muscle got a ton of involuntary use in everyday function), it just took longer than most to get over. Prescribed swimming over lifting, amongst other goodies.

First I've heard of rhomboid muscles, I will investigate that. I'll also look into AIDS. Thanks for all the replies.

re: Lingering Back Pain - need some advice
I had a similar issue last year but with my lower back. The occasional 3-4 pain turned into a slipped disc and pinched sciatic nerve with 8-9 constant pain.

I would recommend going to a chiropractor soon to get it checked out/worked on before it gets more painful and more expensive (longer treatment). If you're in BR, Chiropractor spine and sports clinic on Jefferson by whole foods is good. Three doctors that work with LSU athletes and decent price. Your particular issue sounds different than mine, but I always encourage it sooner rather than later after going through that type of pain.

This pain may be coming off of a nerve or nerves in your neck. See a neurosurgeon. Dr Oberlander at Neurosurgery Center is wonderful!

It's a nerve issue. My friend had a pain like that for years.
He eventually had minor surgery.

Chiropractic Spine and Sports is a reputable clinic as well as Capital City Chiropractic if you choose to go the chiro route. Both have there post doctorates in sports medicine so they see this type of condition more often.
