Lingering Back Pain - need some advice

Sorry for the length guys!
For about the last six months I have had minor to moderate back pain located between my right shoulder blade and spine. I would consider myself an active individual. I do a regular workout routine (chest, legs, back etc..), and I run about five to seven miles a week. Also, my job requires me to be on my feet a majority of the day.

This spot would always be kind of tight after a chest or back workout and then one day it just started hurting. I didn't do anything irregular, so I'm not particularly sure what caused this. When it first started, I would have rated it as a four or a five on a scale of one to ten. I immediately stopped working out/running and began icing/heating and taking naproxen. I did no physical exercise for five weeks. Upon returning to the gym I had no pain for about a month, but the ache started again. Though it was only at a two to three or so. It was discomfort, not pain. Probably to my own detriment I continued exercising and it never really worsened.

Now I'm just fed up with it and would like to not be in discomfort after a workout. So, should I just bite the bullet and go to a physician? I'm worried I'll just be told to rest it and be prescribed a painkiller. Would anyone recommend a Chiropractor or PT? Massage perhaps? Not sure what route to take and was wanting to know if anyone here had experience with anything like this. Thanks.

Sounds muscular. Get a doc to look at it. You might have a slight muscle tear.

I had the exact same pain, it turned out to be shingles. I didn't have the large rash like most get. I just had two or three "pimples" on my back and chest.

Go to an orthopedist, not a chiro. Let them know your concerns and briefly mention that you hope to do something to heal it, not mask it. They may be able to prescribe some physical therapy to take care of the problem.

hopefully you don't have any nerve damage from a disc herniation.

no family history of early degenerative disc disease? any trauma?

sounds like some injured rhomboids. any neck pain

I would go see a D.O. who can do some OMT (what a chiropractor would do) but then he can prescribe anti-inflammatory or pain meds. maybe do a MRI if special tests lead to the notion of a possible vertebral disc problem.

Good luck.. see a doctor.. preferably one who will do a thorough physical exam before ordering expensive tests

Going through the same thing right now in the same spot. I'm active just like you. Work out 5-6 times a week.

I know mine is muscular and went to the doc Monday. Got 5 trigger point injections, robaxin, and a medrol dose pack. Doc is a good friend of the family so he literally just gave it all to me

Feeling 100xs better. Still using the heating pad and making use of the hot tub, but the doc visit was definitely worth it

I've gone through the same thing exactly in the same spot. Those tiny muscles connected to your shoulder blade are knotted up and not working properly. Battled that for over a year. Won't to the doctor and got on mmuscle relaxers. Went to a regular physical therapist withsome eexercise therapy and didn't work. Ended up going to a trigger point needle ttherapist. Took 5 sessions and it worked wonder. Still flares up ffromtime to time but nnowhere near what it used to be.

if it's the right shoulder, you could also be having a gall bladder attack or spasm.

Go see a doc if it is really worrying/bothering you

Not this one, I think this is an obvious case of Super AIDS. Get your affairs in order and make your peace with God, time is short.
