15 years back lightning hit the electrical feed line going into my house, frying many appliances and the HVAC.
State Farm paid to replace minus deductible.

Yesterday the same thing happened to my brother but it looks as though only the ac and a few breakers were fried.

State Farm told be they would not have paid if the lightening had hit the electrical pole and the damage was from surge. But they had no damage to the pole or feed line so they paid up.

I'm wondering if he will be able to collect on only 1 item. More may be damaged but he doesn't know yet. After an electrician came over and got his power back on it was late so he put his window unit in and called it a night.

The number of damaged items don't matter, the cost of the damages and the deductible amount does. 1 item damaged, repair cost $2200, $1k deductible then it pays out $1200. 10 small items damamged $600 in damages, $1k deductible, then the damages are less than the deductible

Were any other trailers in the park damaged?

Lightening damage

If you leave something out in the sun the UV rays will cause lightening damage.

I believe that this natural phenomenon is spelled 'lightning', not lightening.

In about 5-6 months, other things in the house will begin failing (TV, dryer, microwave, etc). Happened to my sister (no pics) when her house was struck.

That happened to me also. Everything we thought survived passed away a few month later.

I had lightning damage last July. Tree started to die from said lightning damage this summer. Insurance paid for that on the same claim, even though we switched homeowners to a different company this year.

Insurance companies are very cautious about "lightning" damage with HVAC units. The get numerous false claims. Many of them even will send an engineer out to collect unit and dissect it, to confirm it was actually damaged by lightning.

Did the electrician provide any documentation of lightning strike? if not, have him do it.

He's a neighbor and his power was off for a while also.I'm sure he will document it for him.

I have never worked with State Farm on a Lightning claim, but most of the others are the same. The usually have an electrical evaluation questionnaire that needs to be filled out by an electrician.

One company I deal with, on AC units, makes you sign a waiver, so they can essentially destroy the unit to see if it is in fact lightning damage. Usually its not lightning damage, but just normal AC wear and tear

Normally there are other things that go out with the HVAC when lightning hits, including but not limited to, garage door openers, phones, both hard wired and wireless, modems, TV's, DVD players, normally it is low voltage items that get fried. HVAC damage only is a big red flag.

Last week, tree limb fell on my power line and broke only the nuetral wire going to the ground(my luck). The voltage fluctuations started and burned my microwave and garage door opener only. I did not use insurance since it is not going to meet duductible but they did say they cover it.

I'm glad my other applicances are ok.
