I'm starting to look for rings for my SO and I'm not sure about the whole vs2 vs si1. I'm probably going to buy from a jeweler in nyc, so I won't actually be able to see it in person. Would I be ok with si1 or is vs2 a must?

There's a wholesaler up there that a friend told me about. At least he said they're wholesalers. I'm just starting the process though, so I may decide to use someone local.

Quite possibly the most successful ad campaign at making an abundant worthless rock garner so much money. DeBeers are geniuses.

Because Los angeles and nyc are the 2 best places in the country to buy diamonds. Depending on the size and quality of the diamond, the savings could easily finance the trip

That have no intrinsic, practical value. Never have. The "abundance" only exists in the stockpiles of certain nations like Russia and China, stockpiles that are never released. They use them as economic collateral which doesn't take into account their existence, keeping the price up while allowing their existence to be leveraged. It's insane.

Also, with the perfect replication that has been taking the world by storm, the prices will only go down, further and further. DeBeers has had to invent and circulate a special machine that can differentiate "real" from "fake." The way it works is that the "fake" ones are too perfect, thereby replicated. That is hilarious and sad at the same time.

Diamonds as a precious commodity will soon be a thing of the past.

Diamonds are dumb.

Go for something cooler than that.

While you and I see eye to eye on seemingly everything about the subject, I do give props VABuckeye. Unfortunately, way valid point.

Plus diamonds are unstable at surface temperatures and pressures and will eventually break down to graphite.

So, they aren't forever.

Chocolate diamonds are what women really want. They're a far better investment too

Cut over everything else....

the cut is what refracts light, which is what gives it sparkle..... and depending on what size you are looking for, avoid "price points".... for example, if you want to get a 1 ct. diamond, look for a 0.95 or something a little under 1 ct., because at 1 ct. the price shoots up drastically... i learned this after the fact, but know about it know....

Yeah I've read the .95 over 1 carat and the cut being most important. I'm just trying to figure out the rest of it. Lol. I guess I'll just find a local jeweler to at least talk to before I do anything.

Blood diamonds are by far the best value, specifically ask for them.
