This thread is full of POGs and trolls.

Pardon me for serving while in peacetime. Know why there was peace? BECAUSE we were the most feared fighting force in the world. Not our fault that your era isn't feared.
Eta; I came to LSU straight from Basic Training and wanted an extra $100/mo so I joined ROTC. I was put in third year and the clowns posing as ROTC student officers were freaking clueless as to what things were really like.

different world back then. Don't you know the ot doesn't take into account ancient history. This is about the age of Internet, so from 1994 to current.

Bro, as a Vet (No, I'm not telling you which category dumb arse...) and a commissioned officer who was a NCO at one time,
Go yourself.
Memorial Day is about remembering our fallen brothers and sisters who died in support of our country.

Very well said. I talked to an older veteran today who had a Ex POW license plate and just had to shake his hand. Nothing but respect for that man.

I've worked with quite a few VN POWs, they have a different outlook/appreciation of life, nothing rattles them, nothing but respect for those guys.

OP thinks he is superior to non-combat vets, but does he realize there are vets with a lot more combat than him? A lot hotter situations? So that makes him second-rate? Don't think so. If you serve, everybody has a job to do. If you do the job, you deserve respect as a veteran.
Besides this is Memorial Day - time to remember those lost, not those thumping their chest because they survived combat.

Thank you. You're absolutely correct. Why don't we save all the interservice Johnson measuring for another day and keep the reason for this one in the forefront.

You would think a commissioned officer would know the difference

I'm beginning to think the OP is full of shite about being a combat vet since he doesn't seem to have the courage to respond in his own thread.

dead is dead, how many bodies come back in the freezers of an aircraft carrier after a peacetime cruise? do they not deserve to be remembered, OP sounds like a bitchy little douche that would probably get fragged if he were in a combat area

I apologize in advance for not reading this entire thread, but this original post is absurd. A veteran who serves his country in uniform no matter his branch of service is still a veteran. Many in the non-combat arms have given their lives or had it taken from them over the course of our history and no one would diminish their service by categorizing them as having not been in combat and therefore not entitled to the appellation veteran. Furthermore, this weekend is not Veterans Day. Wait until November 11th and drag this crap out again. This Monday is Memorial Day when we honor those who have died for their country. I suggest you raise the issue posthumously. (Oh, and I have a CIB and spent a year in the infantry in a place I would not wish on even you.) Grow up.
