There's a big mixed use development going up just South of the water campus as well... River House or something along those lines. Plus the new LSU development on Nicholson is underway.

Per the article

its importance cannot be overstated.

So yeah it sounds like a pretty big deal.

I don't get it... is "water campus" just the name of the development? Like calling Perkins Rowe "Perkins Campus?" Or is there some actual connection to LSU?

It's an actual research campus with connections to LSU as well as federal and private research.

Hopefully it will be more impactful than GSRI...

Thanks.

And it is supposed to take up the entire area between LSU and downtown? Half the buildings on campus still have window units; where's this magical funding coming from?

ETA- Not to mention the African American community that'll need to be displaced. They may, MAY, get a couple of buildings up in my lifetime, but it'll never come close to the renderings on that website.

I believe it is a public-private research initiative to study coastal erosion and the MS River

They're supposedly building the most sophisticated scale model of the MS River in the country

The rest of the area is set for development of supporting businesses and residences

Not sure when it's supposed to be done, but it will never be done on time.

The land for the proposed area has been cleared for some time now.

No, it's only three blocks immediately south of the bridge.

It's going to help revitalize the area between LSU and downtown, though.

There are several up now, that are open and operational, with more under construction.

Well, not necessarily, I found one in AZ, I know we'd be behind them.

Lot's of culcha needs to gentrify for it to look as nice as the website.

I would love nothing more than the Presidents Streets be a nice place for middle class, clean, and safe people to live.
