Legit Ways to Get Out of Jury Duty

I've never had to go (was in school both times I was called). What excuses have you used that worked? If someone said "I'm going to automatically say the guy is guilty for forcing me to lose money from my business for having to come here" would the judge punish them for that? BTW, had to include this Curb Your Enthusiasm scene. Would that work too?

The judge is likely to give you an arse chewing in front of the whole room and make you stay until the last juror is picked. He may give you a fine for contempt, also.

Hang out until you find out what the trial is about and then get really excited. So excited that you blurt out to the lawyers that you can't wait to punish this person because this is the same thing that happened to "my friend" some time ago.

Being yelled out for a day is better than possibly having to serve jury duty for a week.

I'll keep that in mind, Choir Boy.

Registered to vote for the first time ever last year. Got picked for jury duty 4 months later. Called and told them I was out of the country, they removed my name from the roster.

And I really was in the UK.

Show up wearing a "I Love Jesus" tshirt and bring a Bible. When they ask you, tell them that the defendant looks like a fornicator.

I hope that none of you who plan on ways to get out of jury duty were among those who were complaining that the jurors in high profile cases where the accused was acquitted (like Casey Anthony) were stupid. If you are one of those people, I hope you realize that you're part of the problem...

The judge here will sent you to jail if you show up in a Tee shirt. I seen it done.

re: Legit Ways to Get Out of Jury Duty
I got called for federal jury duty a few years ago which is much, much worse than state. Federal trials often last months, not days, and the acceptable excuses are very limited.

The questionnaire they sent asked about physical conditions that might preclude your serving. I mentioned that I take a diuretic for my blood pressure but that shouldn't be a problem as long as I could take a bathroom break at least hourly. I never heard from them again.

If you are a doctor they take you off the list instantly. I'm sure that would work for any public service job

re: Legit Ways to Get Out of Jury Duty
Be an educated individual. Lawyers like to try cases to a dumb jury.

Have actual knowledge and a formed logical opinion of the subject of the trial, especially if it is a civil trial.
