Need sincere advice regarding place to live near Ochsners in BR off of 1-12. Coming from DHMC in NH and we paid close to $2000.00 with utilities. Know the traffic is the shite so to be close would be great. Anybody living in range of this area please submit advise. Thanks.

In BR, Shenandoah or White Oak Landing neighborhoods would be close. Livingston Parish might be an option too.

Do you have kids?

Oh, and you might get more hits on this thread if you changed the title to something like "where to live in Baton Rouge close to Oschner's", although a bunch of people will probably tell you don't move here. Most people are skipping this thread because alll they're seeing is Lebanon, NH.

Thanks, no kids. Been working @ DHMC and really liked it. However, the money was too good to pass and its only a two year contract. I am married so I really wanted something safe. Thanks again...

Look for Green Trails at Shenandoah. New neighborhood that is only about 5-10 minutes from Oschner.

Can't tell if serious or not but will take at face value. I know BR and well, we will make the best of it.

I'd recommend Shenandoah or any of the little subdivisions off of O'Neal Lane. I'd avoid Denham Springs, though because some days, the commute home will be a nightmare.

From Oneal Lane? Nah. Traffic is wide open on I-12 East after Airline almost every day

Every day there's not an overturned 18 wheeler on the Amite River bridge (which is frequent). I'd just avoid that extra hassle.

shadow brook lakes is a brand new subdivision off of Harrells Ferry. Woodland Ridge is very nice and has some newer homes toward the back off of Terrall lane. White Oak Landing is very nice and there are a bunch of other great subdivisions along Harrell's Ferry. There is a bad apartment complex on Harrell's Ferry (St. Jean apartments) that you don't want to be too close to, but pretty much the rest of the area is fine.

Thanks all, would rather not buy, but if it comes to that I will. Start date is end of March. Close is important but safety and and some niceties would be mandatory. ps thanks Dorthy, Pecker.

This is Baton Rouge, you want to be close.

Being at Oschner gives you many living options that are unattractive if you were working in a different part of the city (like downtown or the cluster of construction companies near Airline and Highland), but it also makes many of the best neighborhoods undesirable as well do to the traffic. Where you are working will often be cut off from much of the city for hours at a time. You're going to want to live close enough that being cut off isn't a problem. I would stay close to O'Neal, Jones Creek, and Harrel's Ferry.

I wouldn't limit your search just to the immediate area which doesn't offer a lot of rental choices. Take a look at the area around Towne Centre, lots of amenities and an easy commute to Ochsner because you're going against the traffic.

Dude, I drive that way home everyday. I haven't had a problem going home since they finished the construction. The reason the trucks were overturning was primarily due to the sharp curves in the construction zones. I couldn't tell you the last time a big rig has turned over there
