Anyone familiar with this? Is it truly the best way to learn a language or is it a scam?

Pretty sure it's a scam. The best way, if possible is to have a teacher or immerse yourself in that language

Depends on the language. I would not recommend it at all with Asian languages. You're better off trying to learn it from a fish. Personally, I think Fluenz has the best language software. They're very good in multiple languages, and would highly recommend them.

I had actually had quite a good experience with Pimsleur. I found the basic Japanese to be quite good as well as the French.

I did Pimsleur and Rosetta Stone Arabic. Very different, but Pimsleur was decent.

I've tried it and it wasn't for me but that's because I've tried multiple methods. Prefer a more structured method.
Basics of language->Basics of grammar->gradually learning vocab
Can't recommend which method is best for you cause some might prefer the intuitive and deductive method of Pimsleur. Seems like Pimsleur is expensive and not that thorough.

Pimsleur has been around for almost a hundred years and is definitely not a scam. I used what they did with French.
That said, it isn't for everyone with all the long pauses. And the marketing for it is sometimes just over the top, watch out for people trying to sell more stuff you don't need. But it is fairly effective and that's more than many systems can truthfully say.
Moving somewhere and doing full immersion is still the best IMHO.
