Lawyer or Attorney?
Posted by Womski on 6/28/16 at 4:11 pm024
Which one do you use when someone asks you what you do for a living?
I'm partial to attorney, frankly.
I heard a black lawyer introduce himself as "Doctor Attorney" once

If I'm addressing a letter to a lawyer, I usually use ____, Esq. in the address line simply because Iona Tiger told me he does it

I like to use the word Esquire or Barrister.

To me, Saying you're a Lawyer sounds more stern like you don't take crap & mean business. Saying you're an attorney seems more humble and business-like.

The only difference is that an attorney may actually HAVE a client.
