Been to the Meineke on Ambassador twice for the same issue and its still not fixed. Don't really want to take it back there. Just looking for some recommendations.

TIA

I've had good luck with Dave's Care Car Center on Pinhook. What's the issue you are dealing with?

The transmission light has been on ever since I took it to Meineke the first time but they couldn't find anything wrong with it. They did find that my #2 cylinder was misfiring. Changed the injectors and 2 fouled spark plugs and it was running better. Over the last few weeks its been having trouble cranking. It's like I have to hit the accelerator to get enough fuel to crank.

Last night when I got in it (been offshore for 3 weeks) it was really bad. There was a slight inconsistent knock at lower rpms that I could feel in the accelerator and it sounded like one of the cylinders was missing again. Gas mileage dropped dramaticaly as well...

Its an 05 jeep grand cherokee

Pretty sure its fricked, I just want to find someone I can trust to tell me its fricked

Really? Huh. Must be 15 years or so ago now I had an issue with a car and spent nearly a year going back and forth to there trying to get it fixed. Maybe it's better with his son in charge?

I was needing to ask this same question myself. I've been bringing my truck to Mike's European on Industrial off Pinhook for over a a year now. Just can;t seem to either diagnose the problem or effectively fix it if in fact that are diagnosing it correctly. It's a 2003 Xterra with around 120,000 miles on it. We were trying to keep it going until my oldest turned 16 but that's another 3.5 years.

So Dave's...any others?

I've only interacted with Charlie and it's all be in the last 5 years. I found that he was always honest and upfront with me and charges a fair price.

I had no complaints with Dave in terms of honesty or price. The issue was an AC compressor and they talked me into replacing it with a refurbished one...after asking me if I planned on keeping the car which only had about 50,000 miles on it at the time. The refurbished compressors failed over and over again and I kept having to bring the car back and have them replace it under warranty. Eventually they lost a shite ton on the deal and finally just replaced it with a new one and the problem was solved. I'd have been happy to get the new one from the get-go, but I went with their advice and we ended up doing that for a year.

When it comes to automotive care, I really am out of my league. It would seem to me that fixing a vehicle is just a matter of determining the problem and replacing the parts needed to fix it. if you figure out the problem, and replace the faulty parts...presto...at least in my head. No?

Logically I know Dave's my be fine, but I'm kind of shell-shocked at even considering it given my previous issues there.

Preventive Services. Ask for Boyd (owner). Built a couple cars for me. Numerous knick-knack things. Good rates and honest to a fault. Many years been doing business with him. If he can't get it done he wil give you the best reference to take it to.

Well stated. And good mechanics should not be faulted because the parts suppliers put out bad batches of certain parts sometimes. This happens more often than people realize, as manufacturers try to cut corners.

I've had cam seals go bad after only 2 months, only to get replaced by a "better batch" under warranty and the guy actually tried to NOT charge me labor the second time. No more leaks. Must be better seals

Rebuilt alternator running fine going on 5 years now.

Hebert's Garage in Breaux Bridge. Off the Breaux Bridge/Lafayette highway. Coming from Lafayette it will be on your right. Great people, call ahead for appointment though
