Lafayette --> New Orleans, this afternoon, I10 vs 90

Rain, basin, mrb, split, Friday... I'm thinking 90 might be a better way to go. Leaving Lafayette around 2:00. But I've never gone the full southern route to NO. Anyone with more experience suggest going 90 or not? TIA

ha, I'm driving from Slidell to Lafayette today and leaving around 4. It's going to be brutal I imagine. Any way to bypass any of the Baton Rouge traffic or should I just deal with it?

I always take the southern route, but I live in South Laffy

I drive from New Orleans to Abbeville often and always take 90, going to Lafayette I-10 may be 15 or so minutes faster, but I wouldn't take the chance with traffic/wrecks etc...
ETA: I'm actually going today and definitely taking 90

Take 90, takes forever to cross river in Baton Rouge, backs up miles in Port Allen. Not to mention all the traffic until you get to Bluebonnett.

90 all day every day. It may take a little longer when there is no traffic, but there will be traffic

shouldn't be too bad going that direction.

I10-W crossing the bridge in BR is brutal. If you were leaving Lafayette at 3 the decision would be simple, take 90. IF you leave at 2PM, you MAY get through BR before the traffic gets bad.
I would take the southern route, enjoy the drive through South Louisiana.

Take 90.
Don't speed around the Jeanerette area. Cops in blacked out cars are always patrolling.

you don't think it would be worth it to take 90? Mapquest shows it's about 20-30 minutes longer than I12>I10, but I imagine it would be a push at worst with the traffic in BR.

Always take 90....frick I10

Worst part of that trip on 90 is the first 10 or so miles out of Laffy. Leaving at 2:00 you should be o.k.
I'd opt for that route as opposed to traffic from MR Bridge through Prairieville circa 3:00.

Live in Lafayette, girlfriend's family lives in New Orleans, we take 90 every single time we go visit. Realistically it's about 20-30 minutes longer, however this is often offset by not having to sit traffic on the basin bridge, or 8 miles from the 10/110 split, or whatever other construction or accident related shite show seems to always be going on on 10.

Last few times I did it, I went 90 just to avoid Baton Rouge

I almost always take 90 from Laf to NO

This. On my too-often LC to Nola drives I always went the southern route. If it's not the basin, it's BR. One of the two is always fricked. Sometimes both.

90 for sure

More often than not I go hwy 90 from Lafayette to NOLA when coming in from Houston.
It may save a little time with normal traffic, but if there is an issue in BR, it's a life saver. Plus, it's a much easier drive once you get out of Lafayette.
But, I am typically headed to the Westbank when I go in town, so it is even more advantageous for me

90. Even a fender bender between two dipshits that should otherwise be no problem fricking shuts down Baton Rouge's interstate.
Enjoy the New Orleans culture.
