Your money will actually be used with the features in the Fire compared to all of the iPad features that go unused.
My experience with the iPad has been that I just don't get it, in that I don't get what most everyday people will use it for that their phone can't do.
People bitch about the "closed" nature of the Fire, but that's only a bad thing if you want to do something it doesn't do, obviously.
Don't expect it to have the same # of Apps that Android appstore or iTunes have. Expect it to be what it is advertised as and you won't be disappointed.
