Two cousins of mine, who are brothers, are close in age. One brother (brother A) has a more successful career and makes a pretty good living. The other brother (brother B) isn't really the "go get'em" type. He has always been the type to take the easy road.

Both are married with the same amount of kids, but brother B's wife is always making decisions based on what Brother A and his family does. I don't notice this shite, but evidently Brother B's wife pretty much picked the same colors, flowers, dressed that Brother A's wedding had. Throughout the years brother B has done several other things just like brother A, right after brother A does it.

Brother B just finished building a new house and the floor plans are pretty much identical to brother A's floorplans. But I know someone else who is sort of like this as well. Well, like brother B, this guy's wife is the one who really is the one who tries to keep up with someone else.. In some cases, she tries to even 1 up. When the people. who the wife seems to try to compete with, bought a certain type of vehicle, less than a week later they bought the same vehicle but went with the fully loaded version.

This has to eventually catch up with people who try to "keep up with the Jones'". Anyone know of any situation where trying to keep up with someone got ahead of them?

It wouldn't be an expression if it wasn't fairly common.

I love people like this (toppers or one-uppers) because they are so easy to troll.
