Keeping cell number

I recently got a work Iphone from Verizon and also have a personal phone that I have had for years. I started thinking that I really don't need to pay 100 bucks a month for my current phone now that I almost exclusively use my work. I would like to keep the number. Anyone tried porting to google voice or any other options?

Google voice works great. We use it at the office.

Google voice works great with any provider except for Sprint, it does not work good with sprint.

Works fine - costs $20 to transfer a number, and it takes a couple of days to port. You also have to use Google wallet. As long as you're cool with that - relatively seamless.
